Construction Superintendent / Site Supervisor Job Description

The Superintendent is responsible for field operations required to construct buildings including the oversight of all on-site construction, ensuring that project plans and schedule are followed, quality is maintained and that the project is executed effectively and within budget.

Responsibilities:

  • Create, maintain and execute project plan and schedule and ensure compliance with budget.
  • Supervise and coordinate all site specific construction activities and personnel
  • Supervise, direct, train and monitor construction crews and subcontractors assigned to project.
  • Plan and coordinate trades to meet construction milestones and schedule
  • Create a safe jobsite with site specific plans, procedures, documenting and maintaining records
  • Assess trade performance ensuring project materials and workmanship meets the project quality standards and design requirements.
  • Communicate with and obtain information from engineers, designers, inspectors, municipal/provincial agencies and owners to effectively construct the project.
  • Advise the Project Manager / senior management of potential problems, work interferences or schedule difficulties and proactively resolve construction issues, conflicts and scheduling complications.
  • Maintain the project’s Daily Supervisor Log Book.
  • Work with construction tools, equipment and machinery
  • Other duties as required

Skills and Experience * Ability to schedule, monitor and forecast resources / costing for optimum efficiency

  • Technical, interpersonal, communication, leadership, supervision, management and dispute resolution skills
  • Building construction skills
  • Understanding and accurately interpreting Blueprints and Specifications
  • Experience applying basic engineering principles to construction challenges
  • Ability to anticipate constructability issues and develop solutions
  • Safe work practices
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Project / Microsoft Office / MS Word / Excel

Qualifications: * University degree, College diploma, apprenticeship and/or demonstrable skillsets in related trades

  • In-depth knowledge of the construction industry operations specifically construction specifications, building materials, methods and procedures
  • All legislated certifications / training
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (excel, word, outlook etc.)
  • Must be able to obtain security clearances for OPP, Defence Construction, Infrastructure Ontario, etc.

Physical Demands: * Ability to perform under pressure in a fast paced environment

  • Ability to transport construction materials, drawings and communications as required
  • Ability to use stairs, ladders and climb over rough terrain
  • Anticipate project related travel
  • Ability to operate from head office, project sites and variable work locations
  • Ability to perform construction responsibilities throughout all four seasons

Carpenter’s Helper

Job Description
W.S. Morgan Construction requires a junior carpenter/carpenter’s helper for construction projects in North Bay. Preference will be given to local applicants. Experience is preferred. Fabricate and prepare various wood, composition and plastic structures, painting, and fixtures for installation

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

Working under the direction of the Site Supervisor and/or Senior Carpenter, you will:
• Cut, shape, and assemble wood and/or various materials with shop tools and equipment such as planers, jointers, shaper, routers, sanders, and various power saws.
• Assemble and/or prepare components for Industrial, Commercial and Institutional projects
• Planning, shaping and sanding; using hand and power tools.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, sketches, and shop drawings for milling and fabrication.
• Maintain and clean equipment and work area.
• Perform work of carpenter as assigned
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Trade school or equivalent, experience is an asset
• Knowledge of shop practices and skill in using shop tools and equipment.
• carpentry and cabinet making
• Ability to read blueprints and translate into fabricated products
• Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform related duties and responsibilities of this job, including heavy lifting
• other duties as required
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license if required

  • Cut, shape, and assemble wood and/or various materials with shop tools and equipment such as planers, jointers, shaper, routers, sanders, and various power saws.
  • Assemble and/or prepare components for Industrial, Commercial and Institutional projects
  • Prepare structures for finish applications by planning, shaping and sanding; using hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, sketches, and shop drawings for milling and fabrication.
  • Prepare materials estimates as directed
  • Determine type and dimensions of wood and/or materials to be used.
  • Maintain and clean equipment and work area.
  • Perform work of carpenter as assigned
  • May act as Lead Carpenter in absence of Lead Carpenter or Supervisor.
  • Direct work of workers as assigned
  • Perform related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Trade school graduation or equivalent, with experience as finish carpenter/cabinet maker an asset
